While the Vellorian Psionic ability can encompass any specialty, most often the Receptive Empathy skill is nurtured. Many of the adventurous Vellorian who do find their way to Starfleet and into other cultures usually enter the medical profession or the social sciences. They have a great instinctive need to help people. Often, they will develop the Empathic Healing skill as well.

Traditional Vellorian garb is made op of several layers of loose clothing, frequently in the form of scarves and sashes. It is rare to see patterns on the clothing; pastel colours are used almost exclusively.

Velloria itself is a very beautiful and peaceful planet. The 3rd of 8 planets in orbit around a red dwarf star, Velloria is mainly mountain ranges and savannah, between two main oceans. Vellorians live in large, clan-like groups, often numbering in the hundreds. Many groups travel around the planet nomadically, but there are more than 5-dozen main cities. Velloria has two large moons, in very close orbits, at least one of which is present night and day. The sky ranges from a violet to a soft pink in colour, with a bluish-mauve being the primary colour. Precipitation mainly occurs in the mountains and on the coasts. Because of the axial tilt of the planet, there is very little seasonal variation, so it is always a warm temperature. Vellorian application for membership in the Federation was accepted in 2347, and they have been contributing members ever since. While many Vellorians travel off world, not many join Starfleet or engage themselves in Federation politics. The main exports from the planet are minerals and luxury items, including artwork and fabric.
