The Archer class Scouts are small and cramped. Of the crew of 14, only the captain and first officer have their own quarters. The remainder of the crew shares 4 compartments. The ship is too small to have a turbolift system, instead crew rely on ladders to travel between decks. The structure aft of the deflector and sensor dish has a long footpad, and two landing struts deploy from the underside of the saucer, directly behind the port and starboard hatches. Because of its limited crew capacity, personnel who serve aboard Archer class ships must be cross-trained in at least two professional disciplines essential to onboard and mission operations. Duties are often shared by several personnel; one crewmember might serve in two or three departments during the course of a weekly duty cycle.
