- Mercedes is a career officer who also managed to have a life. Although her marriage didn't last, it lasted long enough to give her Caterina. Mercedes' career had more ups than downs, a fact reflected by her being offered the command of the second Galaxy class ship. The events at Gamma Kesis I left her marked, but also strengthened her will.
This served her well in her next tour of duty, the command of the Neutral Zone Task Force. After seven years in the Task Force, Mercedes decided to leave the starship life. She decided to pursue her second calling, law, and, eventually, attained her present post as Judge Advocate General.
