- Description and Personality:
- A whipcord thin Human of middle age, Major General West is almost always seen wearing an immaculate uniform with his service ribbons. His greying hair and steel-gray eyes are distinctive, as is his crisp moustache. Although a general officer, his record as a Marine has earned him the sobriquet of "Colonel." His men are devoted to him and would follow their Colonel to the gates of Sto-Vo-Kor and beard the Fek'lhr in his lair.
The Colonel belongs, heart and soul, to his work. He will do everything within his power to serve Starfleet Command, in the form of Special Projects. If that means dying for them, then he will accept that. If it means capturing Romulans for the purpose of interrogating them, learning about them, analyzing them, even at some risk, then that is the proper course of action. There is nothing more he wants or desires; he already has everything he can expect.
West is an intense person, dedicated, competent, and unwavering in his duty. He could be a likable fellow if he would relax a little and accept the other officers as people.
- Notes:
- Although West is consistently called Colonel in the movie, when he is seen in uniform he wears the rank and uniform of a Rear Admiral, the naval equivalent of a Major General.
Colonel West was apparently patterned after Lt Colonel Oliver North of the Iran/Contra affair in the early 1980s on Earth, hence his middle name of "Oliver".
