Formally know as the Affiliation of Outer Free Worlds, the Baker's Dozen is a relatively loose alliance based on common interests and mutual defence, formed after the Four Years War of the 2250's.

Baker's World was founded by Starfleet Lt. David Lawrence Baker after the disastrous Four Years War in the 2250's. The alliance known as the Affiliation of Outer Free Worlds quickly grew up aroud Baker's World, gaining the nickname "Baker's Dozen." The current President of the Affiliation of Outer Free Worlds is his son, Willis J.F. Baker.

The AOFW maintains a variety of military forces, including the AOFW Space Navy and the AOFW Army. Army forces assigned to AOFW ships are referred to as Marines, but are not a separate Marine Corps. Rank systems are paralel to Starfleet and Starfleet Marines respectively.
