ANIME GIRLS
Based on: Japanese animation.

Anime Girls appear as slender adolescent female humans with large heads and brightly coloured hair. The eyes are large and liquid, usually the same colour as the hair. The nose is non-functional (no nostrils) and is just a sharp point. The mouth is very small and almost disappears when closed, but is capable of opening wide enough to cover the entire lower half of the face The skin is pale Caucasian. Hair colour ranges from brown, red and blonde through magenta, green, blue and yellow.

Anime Girls are (you should pardon the expression) highly animated and very emotional.

BENEVOLENTS
Based on: Dave Slater's Cluster Campaign.

Benevolents are shape-shifters. Their normal state is a gelatinous liquid. Unlike Star Trek's Founders, Benevolents must retain their mass, although their volume and density can alter. A Benevolent masses about 50kg, so to duplicate a large human of 100kg, some sort of structural framework is required, for which the Benevolents sometimes use powered mechanical endoskeletons.

Benevolents once ruled a large section of the galaxy, and the name was a sarcastic one applied by their slave races. Their own name is unknown.

Benevolents may try to infiltrate groups by duplicating members of the group, but although excellent mimics they are unable to duplicate memories, skills and so on. If detected, a Benevolent will try to escape, often by oozing into cracks in walls or under doors.

RHONE
Based on: Jack Chaucer's Dillians, from the Well World series.

The Rhone are Classical centaurs, with a human torso and an equine body (the horse torso is referred to as the barrel to avoid confusion). They come in all colours that horses do, including piebald, with matching colouration on the human parts.

The Rhone are a friendly, outgoing race. They wear clothing on the torso for warmth in cold conditions, but otherwise seem indifferent to eolthing as anything other than decoration. Rhone are herbivorous.

The Droyne
Based on: GDW's Traveller RPG.

The Ancients were a major race whose civilization apparently ceased to exist many tens of thousands of years before the Vilani Empire was established. The Ancients had technology whose level was apparently unmatched by the Imperium, and seeded sentient beings including Humaniti across various worlds of the galaxy. Available information about the Ancients has grown over the centuries as new excavations have been completed and as newly available artifacts have been analyzed. The Ancients, as a species, are believed to be extinct. Some Imperial scientists believe that the Ancients' physiology greatly resembles that of the extant Droyne. Some scientists have even proposed that the Droyne and the Ancients may be the same or related species, and possibly even subspecies of the same race. Alternatively, during the Second Imperium and early Third Imperium, one of the leading scientific theories of the period concerning the origin of the Ancients was the Archon Thesis. This thesis is not widely held among modern xenoarchaeologists, however. The Ancients' civilization was destroyed in a cataclysmic war. Over a period of about 2,000 years, they fought with such ferocity that archeologists today work under a severe handicap trying to piece together the bits and fragments that remain. The Final War was fought with technology far beyond that available to the Imperium, or to any civilization extant. Estimates place the resources used at tech level 25 or greater: a level virtually incomprehensible to those investigating the war. All that remains of the Ancients is the species known as the Droyne, who have much of their technology and to whom their former status is now only dimly-remembered myth. Droyne who served the Grandfather during the Final War were settled on Briora in the String of Pearls.

THE PNUME
Based on: Jack Vance's The Pnume, as illustrated by Wayne Barlowe.

The Pnume are two metres tall, thin, covered with a hard, pale exoskeleton that softens to flexibility at the joints, fingers and toes, not unlike a grasshopper in feel. The head is long, with complex rasping mandibles concealed in the mouth. The eyes are shadowed in deep sockets. The long, strong arms end in hands with two bony fingers. The feet have three strong articulated toes, and are mottled red and black.

The Pnume's legs are jointed so that the knee bends backward. Shoulders and hips are flexible ball joints and the neck is hinged. By bending over backward, swinging the arms back and releasing the neck hinge, the Pnume becomes quadrupedal. It can move quickly and easily in this fashion.

The Pnume wear long sombre black cloaks and broad-brimmed hats. They skitter quickly and avoid being seen if possible.

VISIONS
Based on: various sources

Each adventurer is approached in a dream-like state by an individual who appears to be familiar, and attempts to get that person to betray the group and the mission. These "Visions" take the forms of supernatural beings, or persona considered to be in league with supernatural Powers.
MEPHISTOPHELES

He wears the pelt of a tiger, and has a snake wrapped around his throat, waist and each arm. In his upper two arms he carries a tambourine and a trident.
THE FLYING DUTCHMAN
A gaudily dressed spectral sea captain appears to Jane Talbot. He is tall and gaunt, with pale skin and dead black hair and beard. When his face is in shadow, a pale glow is visible in his eyes. He wears a large assortment of medals and decorations, including a large four-pointed star with an enameled starship in its centre. He wears a jeweled diadem on his head and a small gem in his left earlobe. A pair of faint duelling scars are barely visible above his neatly trimmed beard. A faint glow surrounds him.

XHAN
Based on: Dave Slater's Cluster Campaign.

Xhan are two-metre tall, slender reptilian beings, looking more-or-less like humanoid dragons. They are covered in glossy green and gold scales, have golden cats' eyes and have a large erectile hood on the rear of the head. Xhan warriors are bulkier and lack the crest.

They are very race-conscious, believing that all other races are lower than they. They have a high culture, very stratified and hierarchical, with a psionics/magic-based technology. The upper classes tend to dress in flowing diaphanous robes.

Xhan are native to Fallopia, a world in a series of bubble universes also created by the Grandfather. They have in the past worked for the Grandfather, and may be accompanied by Zoyd or Greys.

ZETANI
Based on: Western mythological demons, Classical satyrs.

The Zetani appear to be the stereotypical Christian image of a demon or devil, 1.8m in height and of average (almost idealised) build, from the waist up, with goats' legs below the waist. The skin is a reddish brown, the features are acquiline and the hair is glossy jet black, swept back from a prominent widow's peak. The ears are pointed and the eyebrows upswept, finely drawn in females but heavy and bifurcated in males. The teeth show prominent canines. The eyes are amber in colour with a horizontal elliptical pupil. Nails are sharp, and reddish black in colour, as are the cloven hooves, the hair on the goat portion is thick and curly. A metre-long semi-prehensile barbed tail projects from the lower spine.

The Zetani are a sensual race. They tend to be very formal in speech and manner with people they do not know well. Their normal mode of dress runs to flowing silk robes in rich tones of red, gold and black.

THE ZOYD
Based on: Dave Slater's Cluster Campaign, originally inspired by the Bugs in Robert Heinlein's Starship Troopers, the Cylons in Battlestar Galactica and the Brood in Marvel's X-Men comics.

The Zoyd are an insectoid race native to the cluster containing the Havenic Imperial Federation, where they were tools of the Xhan. Zoyd Warriors are non-sapient and are controlled by the highly intelligent Queens and Princesses. Zoyd set as guards will attack relentlessly until either victorious or dead.

Zoyd Warriors may be encountered wearing semihumanoid powered battledress. From the "waist" up, they appear to be a humanoid in silver armour with a single red light running back and forth in a visor slot. From the "waist" down, they resemble a metallic ice cream cone.

Unarmoured Zoyd will usually be armed with a laser carbine or gauss rifle, while armoured Zoyd will have a Plasma Rifle
