- The Dyson Sphere uses a variant on the Federation standard World Mapping Index. This index uses hexagon shaped mapping templates to standarise mapping of planets. The Sphere is, however, much, much larger than a natural planet.

- On a normal planet, a World Triangle is a variable number of World Hexes on a side. The Dyson Sphere Mapping Project uses several intemediate steps to approach a Sphere Triangle.
- A Fifth Order Hex is 10,000km in diametre.
- A Sixth Order Hex is 100,000km in diametre.
- A Seventh Order Hex is 1,000,000km in diametre.
- A Eighth Order Hex is 10,000,000km in diametre.
- A Sphere Triangle is 12 Eighth Order Hexes on a side.
