- Nick Tate was born in Canberra Australia, son Alan and Sandra Tate, a Flight Control officer and a Communications officer, respectively. He followed in his father's footsteps and became a Flight Control officer himself. He attended Advanced Tactical School at the Academy, and spent his Cadet Cruise on the USS Anderson in the Romulan Neutral Zone. He spent the next seven years on the USS Carter, also in the Neutral Zone, before attending Strategic Operation School. When the Dominion War broke out, Lieutenant Tate transferred to the newly formed Fighter Command as a pilot for the Peregrine Class Light Attack Craft. Due to the attack on Dyson Base, coupled with the threat of Romulan activity in the Sphere, Lieutenant Tate was transferred to Freeman's Island as Logistics Officer and pilot of Eagle One.

- Notes
- Nick Tate is, of course, named after the actor who played Captain Alan Carter, the chief Eagle pilot on the TV series Space: 1999 (the middle name is from the character of Capt. Carter). Tate also played Captain Durgo in the Star Trek, the Next Generation episode Final Mission where, of course, he crashed a shuttle...
