- Bertran Tova was raised on the colony world of Takren II on the edge of the Cardassian DMZ. With the threat of invasion from the Dominion-controlled Cardassian Union imminent, he enlisted in Starfleet. He completed his training too late to particpate in the final thrust into Cardassian space, and was assigned to Dyson Base in the wake of the attack on Freeman's Island.
