The Type 5 Shuttlecraft is the forerunner of the Type 6, and was introduced into service in 2285. Its design was based in part on that of the older Class F Shuttlecraft, with the impulse drives relocated to the upper aft cornerst of the hull to allow the inclusion of an aft loading ramp.
The side door alcove behind the crew compartment can be fitted with additional seats, consoles or other equipment. When such equipment is fitted, the side doors cannot be used, and personnel must enter and exit by the aft ramp.
Statistics for the Type 5 Shuttlecraft are identical to the Type 6 Shuttlecraft on page 221 of the Star Trek, The Next Generation Core Rule Book.
