- Mina Montreaux was born in the Yukon, a northern part the Canadian area of North America on Earth. Her parents were senior partners in the venerable legal firm of Cogsley Associates, run by Areel Cogsley, granddaughter of the legendary Samuel T. Cogsley. She has a twin sister, Moira.
During her time at the Academy, she studied Interspecies Relations. While on her Cadet Cruise, she was awarded the Starfleet Citation for Conspicuous Gallantry when she pulled the XO of her ship from the burning wreckage of a shuttle crash.
Her first tour of duty was spent charting the rimward fringes of the Federation along the border between the Alpha and Beta Quadrants. During her second tour, she spent time on the IKV QIH'etlh (Sword of Destruction) a Klingon K'Vort Class Battlecruiser, as part of the Officer Exchange Programme. She served on the USS Juggernaut during the Klingon and Dominion Wars.

- Commander Montreaux is known as "The Ice Princess" behind her back for a number of reasons - her colouration, her apparent lack of emotions and her preference for winter sports. As XO, one of her functions is to act as Devil's Advocate, which she does with ruthless efficiency, seeking out the weak points in any plan. She has few close friends, but even those who do not like her respect her. The only person for whom she truly lets her guard down is her sister Moira, who is now with the Starfleet Oversight Committee which reports directly to the Federation Council.
