Although some believe that the ship in question is the J-class transport/container ship seen in Star Trek: Enterprise, it could also be the small space cruiser seen in Mudd's Women and The Way to Eden. In the episode The Menagerie, James T. Kirk's predecessor as commanding officer of the Enterprise, Fleet Captain Christopher Pike was aboard an old Class J training vessel when a baffle plate ruptured and exposed many helpless trainees and cadets to delta-particle radiation. Pike dragged several cadets from the danger but in the process was hopelessly crippled by the rays.
