Starfleet Ground Forces

Starfleet ground forces have come a long way in the last century. From the disbanding of the SFMC in 2294 to appease the Klingon Empire after their complicity in the assassination of Kilngon Chancellor Gorkonand the attempted sabotage of the Khitomer Accords, Starfleet's Rapid Reaction Teams have built a reputation for bravery under fire through the Cardassian War and the recent Dominion War. For most of this time, they were subsumed into Starfleet's structure of Command, Science and Operations branches. Following the part played by the ground forces in the taking of Cardassia Prime, it has been decided to promote the RRTs to a full-fledged branch with their own branch colour and service infrastructure. This is not a return to the SFMC, but a recognition of the vital role now played within Starfleet.

Unique to Starfleet's ground forces are armoured fighting vehicles, from Phaser Tanks to the ubiquitous "Hopper", combining the attributes of a hovercraft with those of a grav vehicle.

Starfleet also uses a variety of Grav Bikes for reconaissance.

Starfleet's ground forces use a variety of personal weapons, from the standard phasers to the heavier isomagnetic disintegrators and tetryon pulse rifles.

Unique to the ground forces is the TR-116 projectile rifle, for use in areas with energy supprssing fields in place.

The EVA Combat Worksuit is an adaptation of Starfleet's standard EVA Worksuit. It is essentially a small spaceship with six modular Waldo arms. These arms are specially adapted for combat missions including Phaser 2 and 3 modules.

The current Starfleet uniform consists of a black tunic with branch-coloured shoulders and black high collar, and a 1cm wide branch colour stripe on the wrist. The tunic is worn with matching black trousers and black ankle-height boots. Branch colours are red for Command, gold for Operations, blue for Sciences and green for Ground Forces. All personnel within a department wear the branch colour of the parent branch.

The Starfleet insignia is incorporated into the combadge and is worn on the left breast.

Combadge

Rank insignia is worn on the right collar of the tunic.

Officers wear a series of silver and silver-rimmed black pips. Flag ranks wear smaller silver pips surrounded by a black field.

Provisional rank insignia is worn by non-Starfleet personnel who have been been attached to a Starfleet unit in an officer capacity, and is worn with Starfleet uniforms. Members of other armed forces attached to Starfleet units usually wear their own rank insignia, and often wear their own service uniforms.

Cadets at Starfleet Academy wear a series of vertical silver bars denoting their academic year. Fourth year cadets serving on their cadet cruise are addressed as midshipmen.

All Starfleet personnel are issued a unique identification card. This card has a small holographic image of the bearer and identifies the bearer by name, rank and branch. In addition, the card contains an isolinear memory chip with the bearer's medical records and career documents and encrypted identity codes.
