The USS Sagittarius NCC-1894 is an Archer class Scout in service with Starfleet in the 2260s. Archer-class ships were designed to go "very far, very fast, and not be noticed." They go "to the edge of nowhere and peek behind the curtains." The class was named for the famous 22nd century explorer and the fourth President of the United Federation of Planets, Jonathan Archer of Earth.

In 2265 the "nearly new" Sagittarius was assigned to Starbase 47, Vanguard Station, under the command of Captain Adelard Nassir. The ship is a long-range Scout with just fourteen personnel aboard. It is lightly armed with two dorsal phaser emitters and a single forward-firing torpedo/probe launcher.

The Archer class Scout was designed by Masao Okazaki of the Starfleet Museum and was based on the profile of his earlier Paris class Light Cruiser.
